It is my pleasure to sponsor “The Soccer for Export Club” for the third running year at Culpeper County High School, in the state of Virginia, USA.
This club aims at teaching its members basic soccer skills, thus providing them with the general knowledge and the essence of teamwork and sportsmanship a soccer player should have when playing this sport.
In our school meetings we analyze moves, plays, great goals, and world-wide top strikers of all times. We specially examine South American soccer in videotapes and, in the field, we put all the strategies and tactics we have learned into practice.
We are currently more than fifty registered members who attend a monthly meeting during school time, out of whom more than thirty participate in the
weekly training sessions. Most of the club members are of Hispanic heritage, but little by little we have encouraged more American students to join the club and learn soccer plays from world powers like Brazil, Argentina, or even Colombia.
In the beginning, the club got started with a few soccer resources; but, with valuable contributions of our school community in a raffle last semester, we were able to purchase new professional soccer balls, shin guards, plastic cones and other required accessories to make the plays in the field and improve individual and team skills.
This year, CCHS teachers Mr. Elio Suárez from Colombia, and Dr. Bella Babus, from Hungary, have joined us in the training sessions, contributing with their views of how this spectacular sport is played in other parts of the world. I personally find this extremely important for the growth of our club, since everybody gets enriched from multicultural sporting experiences, and sharing our time and knowledge to CCSH students will make them become more interested in this passionately popular game. I am quite proud of the members I sponsor and of the energy and commitment they have shown for the welfare of our club as a truthful alternative for the community in Culpeper. Go the Soccer for Export Club Members!
