Mar del Plata's Flea Market
now known as The Antique Fair had a difficult and complex
birth, but was finally inaugurated on February 3rd, 1996 at
Plaza Rocha.
Its creation was due to the tenacity and vision of three resolute
and spirited women… Gladys Tivoli, Carmen Villen and
Amalia Cordiviola.
To go into details of the problems involved in 'getting the
show on the road' would fill a book. Sufficient to say that
the 13 original stands on opening day grew to 15, then to
30 by the end of February . Now there are 40.
Here you will find attending stands some people who have Antique
Shops in town but others who are collectors from all walks
of life...a biologist, a college professor, a lawyer an ex
army officer, all passionate and inveterate treasure seekers.
With this wide range and cross section of people, the display
of articles and wares is immensely diverse. You'll find not
only silver, china, crystal, books. stamps, coins but amusing
and curious collectibles.
The Marketplace is open Saturdays, Sundays and Holidays (weather
permitting) from 10 a.m. till sunset and during the summer
months till 10 p.m....Plaza Rocha --20 de Septiembre between
Luro and San Martín Streets.
Stroll, browse and chat with some interesting people and perhaps
see that treasure you had never expected to find! Top |
